Legendary angler and hunter Lee Wulff, first established a camp at the location of the Main River Lodge from 1951-1958. Johns Manville Corporation built the current Lodge in the early 1960’s as a company retreat to entertain customers of their Advocate asbestos mine located in Baie Verte, Newfoundland.
Gene Manion, pilot and owner of bush plane operation Newfoundland and Labrador Transport, operated the Lodge for Johns Manville until 2004.
Adrian and Marg Walsh of Pasadena, Newfoundland began the outfitting operation, “Main River Safari” in 1999 with the primary focus on fly-fishing, big game hunting and winter snowmobile touring in the Main River area. The Walsh’s were successful in building a multi-season outfitting operation. The cornerstone of their business model was honesty, great customer service and fantastic home cooked meals.
In 2009 the Walsh’s consolidated the area by purchasing the Main River Lodge from Johns Manville. Atlantic Rivers Outfitting Company a subsidiary of Coordinates Capital Corporation purchased “Main River Safari” from the Walsh’s in late 2010 as a complement to the companies interest in other remote lodges in the province. .
